Crash in the Peloton
Crash in the last 500 meters rounding a curve on a slight incline. From one report when watching OLN, 35 riders were involved at 65 kph. When a crash happens in the final KM - this is a safety feature to stop too much josteling and stupid tactical moves - everyone within the final KM get the same time. The winner gets the yellow jersey and any time bonuses for sprints won by riders during the stage are kept, but the tally of hours and minutes will be the same for most of the participants. Lance was under the mass pile up. Winner of the 168 km stage was Alessandro Petacchi at 3 hrs 44mins, 33 sec. Overall standings didn't change much because of the crash. And since the Aussie who won the Prologue race yesterday was within the one KM, he gets to keep the yellow for another day. That was some pile up. A couple of riders may have been hurt bad enough that they are now out.
Tomorrow is 204.5 km. mainly roads. Several sprints. Not in the mountains yet.
