Metric Century
Did something I had not planned on: I rode over 100 Km today (really Friday) with K.

As I said we had planned to do, we rode to Dorchester then to Belmont and back. Stopped at the Timmies in Dorchester for a small coffee and a nature break. Then stopped in Belmont. Turned around, and I was feeling really good. It was overcast and cool. Not anything like my first venture down this way a few weeks back.

We stopped again on the Donneybrook side road - Power Gels/Power bites rock - and then later in London. When we were at the 84km mark or so in London by Adelaide, I was feeling energized. I thought, since I was this close, I wanted to do 100km. K had not done more than 50, so I wasn't sure about her, but she said she wanted to do the 100km just as I was going to suggest it for myself. So we continued on, a little slower, but on out to the far end of the bike path turning around just after Storybook. She ticked over 100km before me - one of our comps is out of alignment slightly I think and she had 4 km extra at the beginning.

After she peeled off for home and later work, I turned around and to the Forks and up to UWO. As per usual, I hit a milestone on the Harris Park hill: 100km right at the bottom and then I powered my way up and to home.

I think we were both at or near our limits today. K went twice as far as she had ever done, and I had not gone this far in about 14 years ( I rode from downtown Toronto to Oshawa once while in university). Today was an awesome ride and it was good to go with someone enthusiastic about cycling. Taking turns drafting, and chatting is certainly better than slogging away solo for 5 hours any day.

So, 102.57km today, over a metric century. 4h37m of riding, leaving at 915am and came back at 230pm or so. 5 hours on the road all told. Fab. I think I can complete 650km MTD by the end of the month - in 8 days. Damn I rode a lot this month. But so did some other riders across the pond. And their final Time Trial is later this morning.

Need to eat now. I feel like I worked out or something.

Carpe Diem
