Bright Angel Trail from top of South Rim including Indian Gardens (in the mossy yellow and green trees) and Plateau Point( at the top end of the thin chalk line top centre)
Nov 20th. 1215pm Mtn time. Sitting in Indian Gardens, Bright Angel Trail. 4.6 miles and 3000 vertical feet down from the Rim. Temp probably 50F / 12C. At the Rim it was 32F / zero C. It took me 2hours and 31 minutes to get to here in Indian Garden.
I had considered maybe going this far, and when I met a couple of hikers on their way up about an hour or so earlier - somewhere on the switchbacks between 1.5 and 3 mile rest houses, they said it wasn't that bad. So I decided to go for it. They also said that going to Plateau Point would be worth the view as well. It is so damn quiet here in the canyon. This is one of the more well traveled trails in the GC, but honestly most of the time I could only hear my own footfalls on the gravel and sand of the trails, the wind in the trees and the odd bird. No planes, cars, cell phones, no hum of electricity. Nothing.
Carpe Diem
