Sail detail on Star of India while underway Nov 13th, 2004


We shoved off, pulled the gang way at 9:04am after boarding around 830am. I chatted with a couple of the other guests and over the next couple of hours introduced myself to Dr. Ashley – the museum director – and later Mark Allen the head of the library. They were pleased to meet me and I know Mark would like more items for the museum especially any photos of Capt Phillips. While they were pleased, they were also busy, so the best reactions to my family’s connection came from the other passengers I recounted the stories too. I don’t often get to pass on stories of someone as interesting as him. And it allowed me to live vicariously through him for a bit.
