View from South Rim looking South ish. 1500 feet straight down over the railing.
You can see the differing age of the rocks from a couple of million at the top to 1.7 billion at the bottom. I walked the Rim area around the GC Village which is the tourist visitor area of the Rim as far as Maricopa lookout. It took me about 2 hours stopping frequently to snap pictures. 187 pictures to be exact. Despite the sheer drops everywhere – quite a few, in fact most without railings or any obstructions between you and free fall, I didn’t get any vertigo or such until right at the end at Maricopa point where it was about a 2000 foot drop straight down over the railing. Wasn’t expecting it and then leaned over and nothing. Like adding 600 feet tot the top of the CN tower and leaning over a waist high railing in the wind. I hate heights so this was a bit much. n I don’t think that there is anything so spectacular on Earth. I know there are bigger Valleys on Mars, but I am not likely to see them. You must come here!
Carpe Diem
