Cringley says Apple w/Intel is a threat to MS
business: Robert Cringley argues that the Intel Apple friendliness could be a big problem for Microsoft. Intel has the connections to all the OEMs, and if they buy Apple and put the Mac OS on lots of machines - Dell, IBMs etc, well you could have a huge opportunity to knock MS off the throne.

Although Apple is a potential threat to MS, I belive that internal problems are a bigger threat to MS at the moment. Consider the fact that XP was rushed to market, and was found to be one of the most exploitable OS's ever in terms of virus attacks, and other vulnerabilities. MS is still releasing patches to this day as new problems crop up all the time. Then there is Longhorn - the release date keeps being pushed back and now it looks like it will be released without a number of significant promised enhancements. In their rush for domination, MS has forgottem about quality and now it is biting them in the ass. I'm not saying Apple would operate any differently if the positions were reversed, but there is a smugness about having an operating system that has, to date, no viruses, no spyware, and no blue screen of death.
