Day before Vacation Starts :)
For those of you who have not been reading my blog since March, LT Smash - short for lieutenant - is serving somewhere in the Persian gulf with the US military. He has a blog called LT SMASH: Live from the Sandbox that I have been reading pretty much since its inception over Christmas 2002. He is coming home soon from all the sand and strife over there and I thought I would fire off a short email to him before he leaves. Here it is:

LT,
I wanted to send you a short note before you signed off from the PG for the last time.
I have been reading your blog and following your story of life as a soldier/officer in the gulf since it started. I don't recall how you ended up on my reading list, but here you are. I have to say you have provided a unique insight into the day to day goings on in theater - right down to the haircuts, visits to other nearby camps, the death of Thomas Adams, and the run ins with the Dragon Lady. The routine of the not so routine. Having your family post on the site was a nice touch as well.
When I created a blog back in March, partially inspired by yours, one of the first things I did was to I add your blog to my perma links. Several of my readers took a look and commented on your out-of-their-experience content. I think even the non military friends found it interesting.
I hope you consider continuing it for a bit so we can find out what its like for you to acclimatize back home. I think this has been mentioned before, but turning it into a book, complete with some of the photos you have taken would be good to see. I would certainly buy a copy. You could write the book on the new Dell when you are home!
Thanks for putting it all on the line and letting us share a bit of your life over there.
Sincerely,
Mike
