blogger publishing off line
Tried to post the following last nite around 1am. Didn't work. I kept getting Java 001 java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out errors. Good thing I cut and paste before I Publish. I get quite pissed when things go into the Ether. -- Mike

Mike could work here!
Yep. hook a trailer to my bike and haul stuff around. It's certainly not your normal bike courier deliveries...

We be Jammin?
No say hotels. Engadget has a story about hotels using cell phone jammers to block signals to force patrons to use their inhoue big $$$ charges phones.

Clever idea. I just wait for the first person to sue because they couldn't call 911 or something.

XPSP2 sec feature I like

Thumb Drives. A nightmare for security at an office. Was even used in a movie as a plot device - can't remember which movie. Had the CIA training school in it... DeNiro?. Well, in SP2 you can do a simple reg edit and allow data to be read from the drives and not written to it. More here at SecureCoder

HTML compliant...
Politics.. Democratic style.

Some Great Speaking tips
I am not the best public speaker. In fact, I don't like to do it too often. I blush and if I am not prepared I can get off track. It is something I am getting better at, but would rather be a listener than a speaker at a conference or very large meeting. This site has some good common sense tips on public speaking. such as
PowerPoint is for sissies.

and

Don’t apologize for your lapses as a speaker, for the paucity of your research, or for the fact that you couldn’t get your hair cut that month.

Twelve Principles
For finding lost things.

Alienware Machine
Now this machine, if there were glowing LEDs in the 'eyes' would be creepy if you beleive in the 'greys' and such. It's not just good industrial design. It's a sweet sweet machine.

Sher Clock
Everyone needs a hexadecimal clock with a Sher motif.

All about Cheese

Go to the Reluctant Gourmet and learn all about cheese.

NASA Damage
When Hurricane Frances hit Fla, it did some damage at KSC. the main pic on the page shows the massive VAB - the vehicle assembly building, which houses the shuttle and SRBs and fuel tank when they are all put together. It had over 800 panels ripped off. When I was there in the spring, I saw the VAB up close. That's a big building. Each of those stripes on the US flag is as wide as a single car lane on the road. CNN said that some of the other buildings sustained flooding damage, and some work may have to be relocated to California.

American Guide...
to Canada... Example:
poutine (pron. poo-TEEN)
Quebecois specialty. French fries covered in cheese curds and gravy. Hyurgh.

Fun with Google.
Here are some fun things that you can do with Google that can pass the time.

the five Stages...
Of Drunkenness... Smart, Handsome/Pretty, Rich, Bullteproof, and Invisible.

DataFountain.
Fascinating concept of an alternate media - water - for displaying information. Controllable over the internet too. Check it out. really novel.

Rules for Being Human

1) You will receive a body.

You may like it or hate it, but it will be yours for the entire period
this time around.

2) You will learn lessons.

You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called life. Each day in
this school you will have the opportunity to learn lessons. You may like
the lessons or think them irrelevant and stupid.

3) There are no mistakes, only lessons.

Growth is a process of trial and error, experimentation. The "failed"
experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiment that
ultimately "works".

4) A lesson is repeated until learned.

A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have
learned it. When you have learned it, you can then go on to the next
lesson.

5) Learning lessons does not end.

There is no part of life that does not contain its lessons. If you are
alive, there are lessons to be learned.

6) "There" is no better than "here".

When your "there" has become a "here", you will simply obtain another
"there" that will, again, look better than "here."

7) Others are merely mirrors of you.

You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it
reflects to you something you love or hate about yourself.

8) What you make of your life is up to you.

You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is
up to you. The choice is yours.

9) Your answers lie inside you.

The answers to life's questions lie inside you. All you need to do is
look, listen, and trust.

10) You will forget all this.
