Streets and Trips
Geek Gadgets: Chris Pirillo talks briefly but glowingly about Microsoft's Streets and Trips with GPS while he is on the road. I remembered that Red and I were talking about using it in a couple of novel ways yesterday. One was as a calibration tool: she found out that her car's odometer speedometer was off by five kph by using the software on a laptop and having it tell her what her speed was. And when Chris (Red's Chris, not Chris Pirillo) had some instrumentation problems in his truck (essentially no functioning gauges), he was able to accurately measure his speed and distance for the balance of his trip. Very clever application of this. You don't want to be guessing your speed when there are radar guns out there. I know when I go on my next road trip, I will be getting one of these: Posting with latitude and longitude coordinates.
Carpe Diem
