Rode the bike today
cycling: I was offered the opportunity to ride with Kelly yesterday and had to very reluctantly turn it down as I was working. It was gorgeous outside. So today, with conditions being similar but athough sans riding partner, I rode the bike to Ingersol and back. For those keeping score, bike path east to Gore and Hamilton then east on gore to Shaw Side Road (the last section is awesome paved now with wide shoulders). then south through Dorchester and then continuing east on the road which is sometimes Hamilton road and other times a county road. I stopped here and there for a few moments to catch my breath, and stretched my legs a bit in Ingersol, but didn't stop for more than ten minutes at any one spot. On the way back I stopped at the tiny convenience store in Putnam and got some gatorade and a cold bottle of water. And did the hill on commissioners west bound from the Hamilton road four way intersection by the Baptist church. That was a long hill.

It got progressively hotter as I rode and it was wearing me down - and the Commishioners hill was pretty much my limit. By the time I got home I had pretty much no grip strength left to even squeeze the brakes and my legs were a bit rubbery. I was hydrated - I think - but my body was telling me otherwise. This was my first real long ride of the year - at 76km, and it took about three or three and a half hours to do. I wore sunscreen, so hopefully I won't get helmet tan head but I know a lot of the screen sweated off.

I am going to be sore tomorrow. And tomorrow is going to be about 33C or better. Good thing I went today. Tally for the year so far is 565km or so. Give or take 5km. And the Tour De France starts in 8 days and 9 hours. :)

Carpe Diem
